# Joining Openion

Openion is free to join & gas free.&#x20;

The first time you connect to Openion you will need to give us permissions to give you [Ions](https://openion.gitbook.io/openion/about/ions-and-fair-launch), conditional market tokens & send your winnings.&#x20;

This is only required the first time you sign up, similar to Uniswap the first time you use a new token.&#x20;

**Step 1: Approve Ion tokens**

This signature allows us to send you [ions](https://openion.gitbook.io/openion/about/ions-and-fair-launch), our onchain liquidity so you can play for free & with zero gas.&#x20;

**Step 2: Approve market tokens**

We send conditional yes/no tokens when you bet. When the market is settled, these are redeemed for ions/tokens. We do not have access to your other tokens.&#x20;
